Kay Honeysett (nee Woods) was a state and national champion in both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.
At the age of 16 Kay won the gold medal for Balance Beam, and bronze in the Individual All Round event at the 1973 State Gymnastics Championships, and was awarded the Australian Gymnastics National Judges Award. She was the open state champion in rhythmic gymnastics from 1976-1980.
She went on to achieve a silver medal in the 1977 Invitational National Gympnastics Titles and represented Australia in the Trans-Tasman Cup against New Zealand that year, and on the West German Tour in 1983.
In 1984 Kay was chosen to be a national selector, as well as a judge at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, making her the youngest Australian judge to achieve international status. She was the third Australian to receive her international brevet in Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics (RSG), the highest award for gymnastic judges.
The Kay Honeysett Gymnastic Blue Award, recognising those who work to promote the sport, was named in her honour in 1986.The BirdWood Gymnastics Awards were also named after Kay and fellow gymnast Melinda Bird.
Shellharbour City Council acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Dharawal Country and recognises their continued connection to the land.
