Robert (Bob) Joseph Wilson Harrison and Angela Harrison were the longest serving husband and wife team in New South Wales government, contributing much to the growth of Shellharbour for 35 years.
Angela was the first woman elected to the Shellharbour Municipal Council, serving as alderman from 1973 to 1977, and again from 1980-1991. Robert was alderman of Shellharbour Municipal Council from 1971 to 1991, serving as Mayor in 1974 and from 1977 until 1991.
Bob was the member for Kiama in the New SouthWales Legislative Assembly from 1986-1999. He is a life member of the Maritime Union of Australia, a life member of the South Coast Labour Council, and a life member of the Australian Labor Party.
Bob was awarded an Order of Australia in 2005, for service to state and local government and to the community of Shellharbour.
In 2013, Shellharbour City Centre’s five-hectare City Park was renamed Harrison Park in honour of Bob and Ann Harrison’s contribution to the community.
Shellharbour City Council acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Dharawal Country and recognises their continued connection to the land.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and the contribution they make to the life of this City.
