Geoff Shaw Large

 

Geoff ‘Bunter’ Shaw is a former Australian representative rugby union player and former Wallabies captain.

Geoff first represented for New South Wales Country against New Zealand in 1968. He played 22 matches for his home state before heading to Queensland where he became a fixture in 47 games.

Geoff made his debut as a 20-year-old for the Wallabies against Wales in Sydney in 1969. He became captain in 1975, leading the team on their tour of the British Isles and the USA. In 1979 Geoff played his final test for the Wallabies against the All Blacks in Sydney, a game the Wallabies won 12-6. He played a total of 68 matches for Australia, captaining the team in 21 of them.

The Australian Rugby Union Geoff ‘Bunter’ Shaw Community Coach of the Year Award recognises coaches around the country who give up their time to develop rugby talent in their communities. In 2012 Geoff was inducted into the Wallabies Hall of Fame.
